Fury Fan Reviews

Review #1

In the case of Fury it was one of those episodes where the spoilers really killed it for me.  I was never a big Kes fan to begin with, and then for her to come back and try to say everything that went wrong was Captain Janeway's part was just to much for me. I actually watched hoping that it would be better than the spoilers and the trailers made it out to be-but alas I was wrong.

The big thing about this episode for me was how much it foreshadowed next season when Voyager returns home and Seven has to deal with the ramifications of a decision Kathryn made for her without her consent in some ways.  Realistically, Captain Janeway chose to bring Seven on board Voyager and sever her from the collective.  And according to the Unimatrix Zero information Seven was pretty happy and well connected within the Borg community so it would be easy to see how the writers would be looking to say Geez-Kes was only gone for a short while and hated Kathryn for "ruining her life"-how much more so will Seven feel the loss when she is tossed into a hostile and very unforgiving Earth society?

Still, I am an optimist when it comes to Voyager-I watched both Fair Haven and Spirit Folk too-hoping that they would not suck as much as they did so.... :)

And maybe now that Kathryn is aware of how Kes reacted she will be more aware of the ramifications of her decisions and be able to help Seven deal with her feeling before they arrive in the Alpha quadrant.  Hey and if not there is always the favorite fanfiction tool-the episode "edition".

Review #2

Fury was a big disappointment as episodes go.  I don't understand why the writers thought they needed to bring Kes back, and why they brought her back in such a negative fashion is unknown.  I didn't like the fact that they made her angry at Janeway, something I don't believe Kes would actually have been because she always had the utmost respect and admiration for the Captain;  and also having her turn the ship over to the Vidiians for organ harvesting as a form of revenge?  I find that unlikely behavior from Kes as well.  The premise that Kes just forgot all the good things that Janeway and crew did for her, and also, after having failed once to "rescue" herself from the past, FORGOT AGAIN that the mission would fail and what Janeway had told her at that point (the holo-message to herself in the future).  We're also supposed to believe that Janeway almost forgot when it happened all over again.

I'm disappointed in the writers ability to maintain their characters attributes.  Its almost as if the writers who are writing now had only seen a couple of old episodes and figured they could hack out a few episodes of their own (as if Janeway would forget something like Kes coming back to destroy the ship..sheesh!)

Overall, I strongly disliked this episode and wished I'd missed it.  It was not at all the way I wanted to remember the character Kes.
