Unimatrix Zero Fan Reviews

Review #1

There definitely was subtext in "Unimatrix Zero." We all noted how Janeway reacted to the mention of Axom's name, and how she looked at Seven while they were in the "virtual construct."

But I particularly noticed how Seven reacted towards her. She appeared more human, true. But not just like a human crew member speaking to her captain, but a human who had a warmth in her voice, and a friendly gentle manner. Her soft smile denoted she was fond of the person she was talking too. No smirks, or tilting of the head, just a tender and easy going manner. And the fact that she wanted Janeway to call her Annika said a great deal about their relationship.

That one scene spoke volumes between the two characters, for Janeway's reaction upon seeing how Seven looked in Uni Z. was a total surprise.

Review #2

The interesting and intriguing “Unimatrix Zero” ends with 2 cliffhangers. One stars the Captain and the Queen of the Borg. The other, Seven of Nine and a new character named Axum with whom she may or may not have shared a 6 year dream love affair. Seven’s dream persona is named Annika, a human designation not used (in real, physical life) for Seven since the age of 6. This dreamy Annika wears soft pink and lavender with a satin trimmed collar. She’s gentle and passive. She has no cortical implant or metallic star on her face. Her left hand has been stripped of it’s metallic web. She smiles a lot. She has a very conservative hair style. This Axum man keeps telling her she can be “herself” i.e., “Annika”. He seems to try to get Seven to forget or deny her life as a Borg living in the Collective and on Voyager as well. Seven begins to rebel and resist the temptation to lose herself in this Borg Fair Haven but the temptation is powerful. Will Seven’s resistance be futile once again? Some Seven of Nine cliffhanging questions are:

Will Seven deny her Borg essence and play the role of Annika for her first real romance or a hybrid of both? If she goes all the way, how will it affect the Voyager Seven? Will Janeway tease her mercilessly as she seemed to twice already in part I? Will she become self conscious of her appearance? Will she begin to find some Voyager crew mates sexually attractive? Will she be given to sexual innuendo? Will “Annika” invade her real life like some strange holodeck character? Will the Captain call her “Annika” just to be obnoxious or to be warm and affectionate? How will (how can???) Seven take it. And finally, will Axum meet death on the end of a stick held by the hand of the Queen as she gloats on Voyager’s screen?

Then there’s the action packed Janeway cliffhanger. How will she fare in her meeting with the Borg Queen (surely they’ll be one!) Did the Doctor supply the Captain, B’Elanna, and Tuvok with devices that protect their thoughts from becoming “one” with the Queen’s thoughts? How will they get out of there? Will they continue to be cybernetically enhanced in some way after they are de-similated? What will Star Fleet think of these shenanigans? Will the Captain, B’Elanna, and Tuvok have the ability to visit Unimatrix 0? Will Chakotay link up somehow and drop by and will he and the captain finally kiss in U0? Will the whole Voyager gang get to have some quality time there?

So many questions. So many intriguing possibilities. I give “Unimatrix Zero” an A because it gives me faith that it’s conclusion and indeed, all of Season 7, will blow us away.
