Let me tell you something about me.  I like to argue.  I like to debate and I can do it on any subject.  I like to discuss difficult issues in an insightful, intelligent and polite manner.  I don’t really care what opinion you have as long as you HAVE one.  Sounds reasonable right?  Right, I thought so.  I do have one pet peeve though…don’t dismiss my opinion out right.  I hate that as I am sure most of you do.  That pet peeve is the reason that this zine was born.

I joined a discussion on possible love interests for Seven and made the mistake of pointing out that she has much in common with Janeway.  Can you believe it was not even discussed?  I was just told, no, Seven would not find it logical.  That was it!  I was then promptly ignored.

We have all been dismissed outright.  You know it as well as I do.  We have all read Starfleet Journal, Michelle Green and all the other online review sites (besides Gina’s ).  We know that we are not going to see any thoughtful discussion of the relationship between Janeway and Seven beyond the mother/daughter one and sometimes we may get outright hostility towards the actresses, especially Jeri Ryan, who play them.  And why is that? Why is it that every other opinion is valid, including the one that says Jeri can’t act because of her costume, except ours?  That is the question that I put to the message board on the Captain’s Quarters site.  I wanted to know where I could find thoughtful commentary and insightful reviews who not only saw what I saw but could discuss it as well?  Gina very quickly told me that if I wanted that kind of zine I would have to create it myself; and since you are reading this on that very zine, I guess you know the rest of the story. (Thank-you Gina)

I hope you enjoy the writing that you find here.  I hope it opens your mind and your heart.  I hope it makes you think.  And if you have a differing opinion please feel free to write a piece of your own or send in a letter and I'll publish it.  We are open to all views and will NEVER dismiss an opinion outright.  It just isn’t in me.

I might argue with you though. *grin*

End note:  As far as the questions raised in this article, I don’t have all the answers now but I hope to explore these and many other questions in upcoming columns.
